Recent Doodles...

All of these were done with colored inks, India ink, and markers.

Love all three of them. Just curious, did you lay down the color shapes/color wash before the ink drawing? Because the colors inform the drawing so much, but in an improvised-looking way.

Bob - Well, the square guy was penciled out first for the color and ink linework. The top dictator guy was colored with the drawing in mind, whereas the middle guy with the blue streak was a piece of paper that I did some color testing on with the colored inks and I just drew the guy over the colors. The blue streak just worked out for the placement of the eyeball.

Thanks! Didn't mean to pry. I'm just really curious about process. I've done a couple pieces where I put down color and drew over it---letting the color blotches inspire the line (I usually work the other way around....line, then color).

No sweat Bob! I appreciate you asking - it makes me think further into my own process and that's never a bad thing. I like the chance effect of slapping some color down with say, a flat brush and then going over it with pen or marker.
