Print/Ceramics Sale at College of Dupage - John Hankiewicz News...

John Hankiewicz (of the comic, "Tepid") mentioned to me that he'll have some of his fantastic etchings at a print/ceramics sale show at The College of Dupage just outside of Chicago. If you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by and check it out. Here's the info on the print/ceramics sale:

Date/Time: Wednesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 1, 10 am - 7:30 pm

Where: College of DuPage, Student Resource Center, Second Floor (by the Library)

Address: 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

John's prints seem to be getting better and better, as he's exploring new art styles and the use of color. Also, check out some of his sketches here. Below is one of his numerous etchings.

Christian Northeast's Illustrations...

I came across Christian Northeast's site recently and I swore I had seen his work before. Sure enough, looking through his portfolio, I saw his contributions (which include comics) to the Fantagraphics anthology, Blab! I don't need to go on about how cool his work is, so instead, just go to his site. His illustration work has not only appeared in Blab!, but also in Rolling Stone, Time, Entertainment Weekly, GQ Magazine, Forbes Magazine (example below) and other high-falootin' publications.

New David King Mini-Comic in the works...

(Page from David King's "Cavalcade")

My pal, David King, tells me he's working on a new mini-comic, tentatively called "Reliable Comics". He's a swell cartoonist who draws influence from Archie Comics, Gluyas Williams (and other "old-timey" artists), and 40's classic & 50's modern cartoons. His comics blend absurd goofiness, some dark humor, and what seems to be some revamped ideas of older comics that tickle his fancy. On his site, he's got his comics for sale, some samples of his cartoon art, and a cool gallery of Gluyas Williams' comics/art. (Ah, and I should also mention he has some gag cartoons in "Gag-Hag" as well.) Below are some rough ideas for his upcoming mini-comic.

Ivan Brunetti's Doodle Blog...

Ivan Bruentti has a blog of his doodles that's really quite inspiring and neat to look at. You get a sense of his character design, notes to himself, and the general sense that the guy just compulsively doodles. He comes back to the blog now and again with a new batch so check it out once in a while. Ivan also tells me he'll have a limited doodle collection in small boxes soon, so get ahold of him once he announces it's finished.

Oh, and if you haven't heard, the long-awaited Schizo #4 is due out soon, so be sure to pick it up! Here's the cover:

Chris Cilla - Cartoonist/Illustrator...

Fellow cartoonist and pal, Chris Cilla, has been a favorite of mine for quite some time and had some gags in the anthology I put together, "Gag-Hag". He's been in the mini-comics scene for a while now and I hear he'll be appearing in an upcoming "Kramer's Ergot" - that fancy art/comics book that's made everyone and their dog cream their pants. Chris also makes screen-prints (and is quite good at it too); above is a screen-print of his. Go to his site and check out some more of his comics and artwork (I dig the covers for comics that don't yet exist - like the one below). Go and buy some of his mini comics at either USS Catastrophe or Poopsheet.

Venting about the office...

Here's a gag I wrote when I was working as a temp in a bank. It was published in my mini, "Spit-Toons #1" (which I'm selling in the Shop). My job was to pull staples out of large volumes of stock info print-outs and then run them all through a document scanner and to then staple them again and file. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time doodling and writing down contemptuous stuff about office work in a journal I kept. Here's a list (though really dumb, I figured hell, why not post it?) that I wrote when I was working there:

1. Journey to the center of a Ding-Dong
2. Pay Your Rates
3. Cardiac Arrest Spreadsheet
4. Still touching your base
5. The CEO ate my virgin daughter
6. Phoney greeting while fantasizing about homicide
7. "There's some cocaine on your lip, sir."
8. Precision Porking with Peggy; a Powerpoint Presentation
9. Trade stocks until you implode
10. Willy the mail-boy smells like pee
11. Still quoting numbers, even in the after-life
12. Around the water-cooler, chattin' about The Third Reich
13. Corporate noose is good noose
14. Temp working on a permanent basis
15. "Yes, the report's ready, massah!"
16. Daily metaphoric anal sodomy
17. Affinity for AK-47's
18. Company Mission Statement: "We Like Rape!"
19. My mug says, "Already Dead."
20. "My secretary's fat and I deserve better."
21. Cost-effective fucking with people's livelihoods
22. "That pension plan gives me a hard-on."
23. How to run a better company by patenting your employees
24. "Vicky complimented me on my new silk tie."
25. Rock-n-Roll mail-merge
26. Profit-sharing with a cock in your mouth
27. Increase productivity by mandatory blood-letting
28. 99 ways to sleep on the job without being caught
29. "Bring Your Guns & Bombs to Work Week"
30. Portrait of the artist as a wage slave
31. Old McDonald (CEO) had a cube farm
32. Four ulcers and no sick-days left
33. "Put down the bull whip, I'll 'CC' Linda..."
34. Brett jizzes in Mindy's eyes, but it's okay 'cause she has vision coverage
35. "Mr. Henderson, I just took a bifurcated shit."
36. Gradual lobotomy with stock options
37. "Didja see my main man Jonathan's figures for July?"
38. Sign above desk reads: "Feel Whorish & Miserable Here"
39. "Did you get my memo about burning your house down?"
40. Satanic blood orgy written off as business travel expense
41. "Hey everyone, look! Cindy's 'on the same page' with me!"
42. Ergonomically correct coffin
43. Retirement party with no memory of achievement
44. Using "petty cash" to buy a bottle of Ripple Wine
45. Entry-level position: on all fours with ass in the air
46. Weather Underground screensaver on my desktop
47. Hidden misanthropy in flow-chart

Benjamin Marra's Illustrations...

It's a little late at night, but I wanted mention that I came across Benjamin Marra's illustration portfolio - which blew me away! Some of the drawings are in a bound book of graph paper done with inks and colored pencils incorporating comics characters, pulp styles, and pop culture in a surreal way. Check out his stuff fer sher!

New Doodle Up - Cartoon Turtle On A Four-Wheeler!

New doodle in the Doodles section. This character is also a "MySpace " user. Check out his rampin' here.

Nate Williams...

I took a further look into Illustration Mundo and one of its collaborators (Nate Williams) and I came across his very cool portfolio site chocked full of illustrations, screen-prints, and all around great design work.

My girlfriend's (Ryoko) MySpace page...

Here's my girlfriend's MySpace character, "Miss Her-Shit" (drawn by her) and her page. Ryoko says that Miss Her-Shit wanted to be a Hershey's chocolate, but instead is an eight foot tall pile of poo. Eh, that's how it goes, I guess.

Link on Illustration Mundo...

The kind folks over at Illustration Mundo have added my site and a sample illustration of mine over at their site.

Hell, I even made the "Editor's Choice" cut! ...thanks Nate!

Yep, the text table on my homepage just wasn't cutting the mustard anymore, so I've moved on to "blogging". Check back for more news and other stoopid stuff I'll be posting.
